During the school year, I don't take the time (read: I don't have the patience) to let the girls help me in the kitchen. So, that combined with the fact that I am often...I don't know how to say this politely...."surprised" by moms who almost never cook dinner for their family...all of this has led us to what I am going to hope to make an annual summer tradition of teaching the girls how to cook. Because I need things to have titles and themes, I call it "Summer Chefs". For now, most of the things I have planned revolve around books - and coordinating foods. The first thing we did was to decorate aprons. The girls went abstract art on me, but they were pleased with their results.

Reese on pajama day at preschool. Her last day was last week.

Marin's spring piano recital was last Sunday. She did well. My mom made this cake for her. I haven't seen this cake pan since I was 18 at my Senior piano recital.

Bennett's spring ballet recital was also last Sunday...and my mom make this cake for her!

Marin and Mrs. Finley after her recital. Mrs. Finley was my teacher also....Marin and I both just love her.

Bennett's ballet recital. I took this right as they turned around...she is 4th from the right. It was beautiful. Her ballet studio is strictly ballet....so no one is up there shaking things they shouldn't be shaking like at the last place she took from. The costumes looked German-ish to me - I'm thinking the composer was German, but I haven't looked it up yet. They learn the French terms and the English translations for everything they do....Bennett knows more French words than I do. She loved it....I worried about her because she had 2 three hour rehearsals that weekend (ironic because the entire recital only lasted about 45 minutes). But, I picked her up after the rehearsals and she went on and on about how she had had so much fun and she loved it so much. She again loved being on stage and loved her little part of the recital.

Backstage.

This week's cooking experience was to make homemade pizza and an oreo pudding dessert. So, they made some Italian flags and learned a few, random facts about Italy. They all drew pictures of the Leaning Tower of Pisa on their flags - it was pretty cute.

We decorated it before Cody got home from work to look like an Italian restaurant. Apparently, Nancy Drew often dines at a place called Paradise Pizza, so that is what Marin named our restaurant.
